Not compatible with iPhone 3GS; may cause damage
Because of the electronic compass (magnetometer) in the iPhone 3GS, any case with a magnetic latch (like this one) is incompatible and may even damage the iPhone. Every time this case is used, the iPhone compass will have to be recalibrated, at the very least. (So any feature using the compass would be affected.) Searching the Apple support forums re: whether the iPhone would be physically and permanently damaged was inconclusive.

After I used the case just once, my iPhone 3GS behaved erratically for several hours (constantly asking to be turned off, over and over and over; even waking from sleep when it hadn't been touched for a half hour or more, and trying to shut down. Restarting the iPhone, syncing it, and even doing a hard reset several times did not help. Fortunately, its behavior went back to normal by the next day, but I never used the case again. I'll try to find a non-magnetic case, but those are harder to come by.

This case should not be described as suitable for iPhone 3GS.

Horrible Product!! DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a very cheaply made holster. I put my iPhone in it twice and the side flap tore away from the holster. It is not leather as advertised. It is a very cheap vinyl. Do not buy this product. You will be highly disappointed. If I could give this product a zero rating I would. You have been warned.

What's that smell?
Item is sticky at the seams, and smells horrible. I can't imagine this is real leather as described. Very disappointed.
